Step by step
- Drop one or more videos. For each file the list shows the size, the length in seconds and the resolution. If a video has no audio track, it says “no audio”.
- Choose the “Strength”: “Light” for the best quality, “Medium” as a good compromise, “Strong” for the smallest file.
- Choose the “Resolution”. “Same as original” keeps the frame size and only lowers the bitrate. 1080p, 720p and 480p also shrink the picture.
- Tick “Remove audio” if the video can be silent, for example a screen recording.
- Tap “Compress video”. A bar shows the progress. Afterwards the row shows the old and new size plus the saving in percent.
- Download the result; with several videos you can also get them all with “Download all as ZIP”. The files have “-small” added to their names.
What you can use it for
- Sharing videos in messengers: Long clips from a birthday or concert are often too big to send or take ages. At 720p they become manageable and still look good on a phone.
- Attachments for email and forms: Application videos, damage reports or proof often fail because of upload limits. Try “Medium” and 720p first, and if that isn't enough, “Strong” or 480p.
- Screen recordings for tutorials: Screen recordings can quickly reach several hundred megabytes. For a how-to in your team or for support, a smaller file is enough, often without sound.
- Background video for a website: A short video at the top of a page should be small and doesn't need sound. “Remove audio” and a lower resolution save a lot here.
- Freeing up space on your phone: Old videos you want to keep but don't need in full quality can be saved in a smaller version; you can then delete the large original yourself.
Why phone videos are so big
Phones usually film in 4K or Full HD at a high bitrate. For messengers, email or a form, 720p is almost always enough – often saving 80 to 90 percent of the file size with no visible difference on a phone.
How it works
- Drop a video, several at once if you like.
- Choose strength and resolution. “Medium” and 720p suit most purposes.
- Tap “Compress video” and download the result as MP4.
Conversion uses your browser's video features. A current Chrome, Edge or Safari works best.
Frequently asked questions
Are my videos uploaded?
No. The video is converted on your device. That matters for private videos.
Is there a size limit?
Not from us. Very long videos take time and memory though, more so on phones than on PCs.
What format do I get?
MP4 with H.264 – plays on practically every device and platform.
What happens to portrait videos?
The chosen resolution applies to the short side. A portrait video at 720p is therefore 720 pixels wide and keeps its aspect ratio.
Will a small video be enlarged to 1080p?
No. The tool only scales down. If the original is already smaller than the chosen resolution, its frame size is kept.
Why did my video get bigger?
That can happen when the original was already heavily compressed. The row then shows a plus instead of a minus. In that case choose “Strong” or a lower resolution and convert again.
Can I try other settings after converting?
Yes. Change strength or resolution and tap “Compress video” again. The original isn't changed by this.
What does “Format not supported” mean?
Your browser can't read this file. Try a current Chrome, Edge or Safari, or convert the video to a common format first.
Does the sound get worse when compressing?
The audio is re-saved as AAC at a quality that suits speech and music on phones and laptops. If you don't need sound at all, remove it.
