Remove metadata and location

Photos often reveal where and when they were taken. This tool shows what's inside and removes it before you share.

Drop photos here

or tap to choose. Several files at once.

Choose files

Step by step

  1. Drop one or more photos into the drop zone. Each file appears in a list with a thumbnail, file size and file type.
  2. Read the “Found:” line under the file name. It lists what the file contains, such as camera, capture time, software, a name or an AI prompt. A GPS location is shown with its coordinates and highlighted in color.
  3. Added a file by mistake? “Remove” takes it off the list before you start.
  4. Tap “Remove metadata”. With several files the button shows how many will be processed. Afterwards each row shows the old and new file size and whether the file was cleaned losslessly or re-saved.
  5. Download each file on its own or, once two or more are done, all together with “Download all as ZIP”. The new files have “-no-metadata” added to their names.
  6. With a single file you can open the result straight in the next tool via “Continue with …”, for example to compress or blur it.

What you can use it for

  • Photos for marketplace listings: Furniture, clothes or gadgets photographed at home can give away more than you intend if you post the original files. Cleaned first, the photo only shows the item.
  • Sending pictures to strangers: Photos emailed to a tradesperson, landlord or buyer often go out as original files. Camera, time and location don't need to travel with them.
  • Sharing AI images without the prompt: PNG files from image generators often contain the full prompt and workflow. If you want to show the picture but not the recipe behind it, remove those text fields first.
  • Images for a website or blog: Pictures for your own site don't need the camera's serial number or the place they were taken. Cleaned files are often a little smaller, too.
  • Shared cloud folders: Before sharing a folder by link, run all photos through at once and put the cleaned files into the folder as a ZIP.

What is removed?

  • GPS location
  • Camera, lens and serial number
  • Capture date and time
  • Names, comments and software info
  • AI prompts and ComfyUI workflows in PNG files

For JPG and PNG only the data is deleted – the image itself stays byte-for-byte identical. The color profile is kept so colors stay correct. If a photo is rotated via camera data, it is re-saved the right way up.

Frequently asked questions

Don't WhatsApp and Instagram remove metadata anyway?

Many platforms do. But anyone sharing photos by email, as files, on marketplace sites or in cloud folders often passes the location along.

Does image quality suffer?

Not for JPG and PNG. Only the extra data is removed.

Are my photos uploaded?

No. Everything happens in your browser.

What happens to HEIC and WebP files?

They are re-saved as JPG without metadata. For HEIC photos the list only shows a general note beforehand that they usually contain camera data and often the location, not the details.

Why is the new file smaller?

Because the extra data is gone. Camera data sometimes even includes a small preview image, which is removed as well. For JPG and PNG the actual image is the same.

Is my original changed?

No. A new file with “-no-metadata” in its name is created. The original on your device stays as it is.

How can I check that everything is gone?

Simply drop the downloaded file in again. If the row says “No metadata found”, the tool found nothing left that it would display.

Can I keep some details, such as the date?

No. The tool always removes the data together. There is no option to pick individual fields.

Does it work with videos or PDFs?

No. The tool is made for image files. Videos and PDFs are not cleaned here.
