Step by step
- Drop an image or tap to choose one. iPhone photos in HEIC format open too.
- Choose a template under “Crop for”, such as “Instagram portrait 4:5” or “YouTube thumbnail”. With “Free” you decide the shape of the crop yourself.
- Place the frame on your subject and adjust it with the bottom-right corner if needed. With a template, the aspect ratio stays fixed.
- Below the image you can read how large the crop is in pixels and at what size the result will be saved.
- Choose JPG or PNG under “File” and tap “Download”. The result is recalculated automatically after every change.
What you can use it for
- Portrait posts for Instagram: The 4:5 format at 1080 × 1350 pixels takes up more height in the feed than a square image. A portrait or product photo looks bigger without the platform cutting anything off.
- Stories and Reels: The 9:16 template delivers 1080 × 1920 pixels. A landscape photo then fills the screen, and you choose which part is visible.
- YouTube thumbnails from a still: A screenshot or photo is brought to 1280 × 720 pixels. Faces and text work best when they sit large in the frame.
- Profile banners: Facebook, LinkedIn and X banners are very wide. Keep important content towards the middle, because the profile picture and buttons cover parts of the banner depending on the device.
- Photo prints and A4 printouts: The templates deliver 1800 × 1200 pixels for 4 × 6 inches and 2480 × 3508 pixels for A4, both suited to 300 dpi. That way the print service won't crop anything unexpected.
The right dimensions
Every platform crops images differently. Upload a photo in the wrong format and heads or lettering often get cut off. With the matching preset you see exactly what will be visible and get the image at the recommended pixel size.
How to use it
Move the bright frame with your mouse or finger. Drag the square at the bottom right to make the crop larger or smaller. The guides split the image into thirds – key subjects look especially good on these lines.
Frequently asked questions
Does quality suffer?
Only if the chosen crop is smaller than the target size – then it is upscaled. With normal phone photos this rarely happens.
Are my images uploaded?
No. Cropping happens in your browser.
Can I use the 4 × 6 template in portrait orientation?
No, the templates have a fixed orientation, and 4 × 6 is set up as landscape. For a portrait print, choose “Free” and place the frame by eye.
What happens to the image size with “Free”?
The image is not rescaled. The crop keeps exactly the pixels inside the frame and is saved at that size.
My image has a transparent background.
Then choose PNG under “File”. JPG has no transparency, so the transparent areas would not be preserved.
Why is there a small caption in the image when I share it?
Images sent via “Share” get a discreet note about this site in the bottom-right corner. Files saved with “Download” stay without it.
Can I compress the result afterwards?
Yes. Via “Continue with …” you open the crop directly in “Compress / convert”, for example to meet an upload limit or choose a different format.
What quality is the JPG saved at?
At 92 percent. That's high enough for platforms and printing, while the file stays much smaller than a PNG.
