Step by step

  1. Photograph the product in daylight or even artificial light, ideally on a table in front of a plain surface. Leave some room around it so nothing gets cut off.
  2. Drop the photo. “White” is already selected as the new background, so there's nothing to change.
  3. Tick “Crop to subject” if the product looks small in the frame. It then fills the image apart from a narrow white margin.
  4. Check the edges. If they look hard or slightly frayed, try a different “Softer edge” value.
  5. Save the image as a JPG with “Download”. If the platform asks for a certain file size or format, send it via “Continue with …” straight to “Compress / convert” or “Crop”.

  • Classified ads: Used items look tidier on white than on the kitchen table or carpet. Buyers see right away what it's about, not your living room.

Photograph the product with some distance from the background and in even light. The clearer product and surroundings differ, the cleaner the edge. With glass and very fine detail, take a quick look at the result.

Where did the shadow under the product go?

To the AI, the shadow usually belongs to the background and is removed with it. The product then stands freely on white. The tool doesn't add a new shadow.

Can I get a square image?

Background removal keeps the aspect ratio. For a square, send the result via “Continue with …” to “Crop”.

Can I use a light gray instead of white?

Yes. Set “New background” to “Custom color” and pick the shade. Use the same value for every image in a series.

What about reflections on the surface?

Reflections on the surface below, such as a glossy tabletop, may be detected as part of the product. A matte surface when shooting avoids this.

How many product photos can I process?
