Free, no sign-up. The tool runs in your visitors' browsers and their files are never uploaded. A small credit to enhancevision.de appears below the tool.
Step by step
- Drop the photo you want to send or post. Several photos at once work too.
- Look at the “Found:” line. If the photo contains a location, it shows “GPS location” with the coordinates, highlighted in color. If that entry is missing, the tool found no location.
- If you want to know which place is stored, copy the two numbers into a map app. You'll see how precisely the photo would have given you away.
- Tap “Remove metadata”. The location is removed together with all other extra data.
- Download the new file with “-no-metadata” in its name and share only that one. To double-check, drop it in once more.
What you can use it for
- Sales photos taken at home: Photograph a wardrobe, a bike or a sofa at home and pass on the file, and you may show where the item is. Without the location, only the item remains.
- Photos of children or pets: Pictures from the garden, the playground around the corner or the way to school should show who is in them, not where that person can regularly be found.
- Images for forums and groups: In hobby forums and club groups, photos are often shared as files. Asking for help with your garden, car or workshop doesn't require handing over your address.
- Holiday photos while still away: If you're still travelling, the coordinates reveal not only your hotel but also that your home is empty. Remove the location before sharing.
Why it matters
Phones store GPS coordinates in every photo, accurate to a few meters. Email a photo taken at home, post it on a marketplace or share it via a cloud link, and you often reveal your address.
How to check and remove it
Drop the photo: the tool shows instantly whether coordinates are included. “Remove metadata” deletes them together with camera data and capture time. For JPG and PNG the image itself stays unchanged.
To avoid it permanently, turn off location access for your phone's camera app.
Frequently asked questions
How precise is the location in a photo?
Usually accurate to a few meters – enough to find a house.
Does this remove the location from my gallery?
No. A new file without location is created. The original in your gallery stays unchanged.
Can I see which place is stored first?
Yes. The tool shows the coordinates as two decimal numbers. Enter them in a map app to see the stored place.
Is only the location removed?
No. Camera, capture time and the other extra data go along with it. Deleting only the location while keeping the rest is not offered here.
What about iPhone photos in HEIC format?
For HEIC the tool doesn't show coordinates beforehand, only a note that a location is often included. The cleaned file is saved as JPG without location.
Do screenshots have a location too?
Usually not. To be sure, drop the screenshot in and see whether “GPS location” appears in the row.
No GPS entry shown – am I safe then?
Then the file contains no coordinates the tool can read. Whatever is visible in the picture itself, like a street sign or house number, of course stays visible.
How do I hide a house number in the picture?
Use “Continue with …” to open the cleaned photo in the blur tool and drag a rectangle over the spot.
