Step by step
- Drop your PNG files: screenshots, exported graphics or photos saved as PNG. Lots of files at once are no problem.
- JPG is already selected as the output format. The “Quality” slider sets how strongly the image is compressed; 85 % is the default.
- If the file also must not exceed a certain size, enter a “Target size in KB” or limit the pixel size under “Dimensions”.
- Tap “Convert” and compare the file size before and after in the list.
- Download. The file name stays the same, only the extension becomes .jpg. For several files, use “Download all as ZIP”.
What you can use it for
- Sending screenshots: Many devices save screenshots as PNG. For a chat, a support request or a ticket, JPG is enough and uploads faster.
- Photos from editing programs: If you exported an edited photo as PNG, you get a very large file. As a JPG it suits print services, photo books or sharing better.
- Images from AI generators: Many image generators save their results as PNG. For social media, presentations or sending, JPG is usually enough.
- Presentations and documents: Large PNG photos bloat presentations and text documents. Converted to JPG first, the file stays manageable and is easier to send.
When JPG is better
PNG is lossless, so for photos and screenshots it is often three to ten times larger than JPG. Many portals and email programs struggle with large PNG files, and some only accept JPG.
What happens to transparency
JPG has no transparent areas. Transparent parts turn white during conversion. For logos and graphics with transparency, stick with PNG or use WebP.
Frequently asked questions
Do I lose quality?
At 85 to 92 % quality the difference is hard to see with the naked eye.
What happens to transparent areas?
They become white, because JPG has no transparency.
When should I stay with PNG?
For graphics with few colours and hard edges, such as charts, logos, icons or pixel art. JPG easily creates messy borders and smudges along those edges.
Screenshots with text look messy – what can I do?
Raise the “Quality” slider, for example to 90 % or more. JPG shows compression artefacts around letters first. Alternatively choose WebP as the output format if the recipient can open it.
What happens to AI prompts stored in the PNG?
Some image generators write the prompt and workflow into the PNG file. The JPG no longer contains this information. If you want to keep it, hold on to the original.
Is there a maximum number of files?
There is no fixed limit. Files are processed one after another; with very many large images it simply takes longer and uses more memory.
Can I delete the PNG files afterwards?
Not if you want to edit the images later. JPG loses a little quality every time it's saved, while the PNG is your lossless original.
